Get Funded for Your Conference Participation:

This Just In! The 2015/2016 State Budget signed on June 24, 2015 by Governor Brown includes billions of dollars that can be used by your district to fund you conference participation! It will be up to you at the local level to secure this funding, as much of it is discretionary. CSTA encourages you to make a plan and a budget to present to your administrator.

Here are a few other options for funding your participation:

Receive support from your school or LEA Through the Local Control Funding Formula and Local Control and Accountability Plan: The implementation of state standards is State Priority #2 under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Many districts have earmarked professional development for teachers in Common Core (CCSS), and a few have included the Next Generation Science Standards as well. Check your district's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) under state priority #2 for available funds. The 2015 California Science Education Conference offers workshops and other quality learning opportunities for educators implementing Common Core State Standards and NGSS. (See the FAQs on the California Department of Education Website for information on State Priority #2.)

NCLB Title I Part A, Title II Part A, Part B, and Part D, and Title III Funds: All of these funds have their own requirements, however the conference workshops and other programs offered at the 2015 California Science Education Conference meet many of the requirements. Check with your administrator, district science lead, NCLB coordinator, or grants coordinator for details. Qualifying workshops include those with a Literacy/English Learner focus, subject matter knowledge, improved teaching skills, assisting teachers to use the state content standards, assessment, and technology.

Pay your own way: Investing in your own professional development is a rewarding experience and may even be tax-deductible. When incurred for the purpose of maintaining or improving your present profession, expenses for training (such as tuition, travel, lodging, and meals) may be tax-deductible. Consult your tax advisor for details.
