Friends of LA River (FOLAR) Outdoor Tour
Join us for a guided walking tour of the LA River with Friends of the Los Angeles River (FOLAR) at Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park.
It may be hard to imagine, but this urban ecosystem was once a wild natural meandering 55-mile-long river that drained mountain runoff into the ocean. As the population increased in the area, and catastrophic flooding caused damage to infrastructures, the US Army Corps of Engineers 'tamed' the river by converting it to a 55 -mile concrete channel. This project began in 1938 and was completed in1960.
Come explore the river's ecosystem and learn about the work FOLAR is doing to build capacity for communities, students, and the future leaders to advocate the nature, climate, and equity on the Los Angeles River. You will also receive hands-on teaching techniques and environmental connections and actions you can bring back to the classroom. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and bring a water bottle.
In addition to CASE’s Event participation and Safety Agreement, FOLAR requires every attendee to fill out the attached waiver. Hard copies will be available onsite.
